Settle Matters Quickly

“Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison." ~ Jesus (Matthew 5:25 NIV)

 

Tempted by Satan

Jesus Announces the Good News

Paul & Silas Imprisoned

25 But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them; 26 and suddenly there came a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison house were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were unfastened. ~ Acts 16:25-26 (NASB)

New Things

I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness,
    I have taken you by the hand and kept you;

    to open the eyes that are blind,
to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon,
    from the prison those who sit in darkness.
I am the Lord, that is my name;

God Calls You

This is what God the Lord says-
the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out,
who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it,
who gives breath to its people,
and life to those who walk on it:

I will keep you and will make you
to be a covenant for the people
and a light for the Gentiles,

to free captives from prison
and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.

Sympathize with Those in Prison

33 Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. 34 You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. 35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

Remember Prisoners

Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering. ~ Hebrews 13:3 (NIV 1984)

Refined Like Silver

Christ died for sins once for all...

For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at God's right hand—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.
