Elders...

The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching. ~ 1 Timothy 5:17 (NIV)

Elders who do their work well should be respected and paid well, especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching. (NLT)

Let the elders who perform the duties of their office well be considered doubly worthy of honor [and of adequate financial support], especially those who labor faithfully in preaching and teaching. (AMPC)

Grace to the Humble

In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for
“God opposes the proud
but gives grace to the humble.”

~ 1 Peter 5:5 (NLT)

With Prayer and Fasting

When they had appointed elders for them in every church, having prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed. ~ Acts 14:23 (NASB)

You Should Pray

Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. ~ James 5:13-16 (NRSV)

Prayer & Fasting

23 Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust. 24 After going through Pisidia, they came into Pamphylia,25 and when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia. ~ Acts 14:23-25 (NIV)

Do Not Weep

Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” ~ Revelation 5:5 (NIV 1984)

What Are You Wearing?

Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Listen to Your Elders

So Moses listened to the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said. ~ Exodus 18:24 (ESV)
